Although initially sceptical about the film's nakedness as well as the brutality, its strong female edge and character arc convinced her to play the role. Butler starred in Jennifer Hills as a writer who was brutally sexually assaulted in a hotel room while on vacation. Steven R. Monroe directed the film which was released on the 8th of October, 2010. Butler began shooting The Stranger Within with Estella and William Baldwin, the psychological thriller set in Mallorca beginning in November of 2011. The film was scheduled to shoot in Copenhagen Denmark and New York City.She was part of the crew for the feature film independent Treachery starring Michael Biehn which began filming in Los Angeles in June 2012. Butler played a role in 2013's horror film The Demented with Michael Welch as well as Kayla Ewell.

Ferland has been nominated more than 12 times throughout her career, including for an Emmy. She was awarded an Emmy Award and a Young Artist Award in Mermaid along with a CAMIE Award in Lead Performance for a TV Movie Series or Special in Pictures of Hollis Woods.
